VoiceThread
What is a VoiceThread? - A VoiceThread is an online media album that allows people to make comments, either audio or text, and share them with anyone they wish. A VoiceThread allows an entire group's story to be told and collected in one place.
Create an account – Teacher can create accounts for class, or each individual student can create their own account. Each account user must have their own email if they want an individual account.
Image – can be zoomed in or out. You can move around on the zoomed in photo while the voice is playing. Create a folder on your desktop with the images you will use including YOUR image.
Comment – you create the voice or text comment and only you can edit or change your own comment. You can have as many “takes” as you need to get it right. By clicking on the record button, you can add voice, clicking on the type button will allow you to insert text comments.
Cost – FREE for education
Numbers of people - Each page of a VoiceThread can hold the comments of hundreds of people. The avatar images simply shrink as more and more people comment.
Pages created - Each VoiceThread can store up to 125 images (or pages).
How do we begin?
1. Teacher sets up their own account
2. Teacher puts up the images (sample)
3. Teacher records the initial comments
4. Give directions to students of what you expect from them
5. Show them how to create their voice or text thread.
6. Send the webpage to the parents to see the work.
That's it; now you are all set to make a classroom VoiceThread. After the VoiceThread is complete, send invitations out to all the parents. You can even choose to add a page at the end of your book for the parents to leave their comments.
How do I subscribe to podcasts so I can share them with my students?
iTunes is a simple way to have podcasts available for class. You can also move the file much like a small document by attaching it to your email and
opening it on your classroom computer, or adding it to your web page, like this file:
Podcasting in my class - How can I use it, How can I find them?
iTunes - Podcasts - Education
iTunes U - see and listen to Higher Educaiton podcasts.
Working on web pages: How to make a worksheet into a .pdf so it can be loaded to a first class web page.
Create the document in a word processing program
Under the FILE menu, select PRINT
Within the PRINT menu page, in the lower left side there is a PDF button.
Click on the PDF button and select where you want to save the document (desktop perhaps)
If you have the HIDE EXTENSION box checked at the bottom of this window, you will NOT see the .pdf at the end of the name of the file.
We suggest that you do NOT have a check in the HIDE EXTENSION box. Then you can be sure you have the right format.
Working with images on first class you MUST do it as a Copy and Paste. Yes you can drag it, but it will not stay on the web page.
Also, if you use a digital camera and want to put photos on your page, be sure to resize them to be smaller before you place them on the page.
