Smartboard Users group – teachers with Smartboards will meet to discuss and share opportunities for Smartboard use in the classroom. Most of staff members in this group were identified through Staff Development contracts.

Monday, April 20th

Participants met in room 208 to discuss agenda. Participants asked for time to create notebook pages based on individual curriculum.
Next meeting: Demonstration of how to record lectures and post to the web.

Monday, March 23rd
Differentiated group into pairs and smaller groups based on Content Areas.
Teachers created content related material using the Notebook software.

Discussed what participants would like to see introduced, reviewed, revisited
Ideas for next smartboard group:
  1. Create a lesson using the software- Everyone sits at a computer with the notebook software and creates 1 lesson plan/notes
  2. Work on creating a review game (Jeopardy, etc.)
  3. Practice making a recording of a lesson
  4. Look at what is good in the gallery and share it with people in your subject area

Participants were given the opportunity to develop a list of web sites to be used as a resource for Smartboard lessons and activities
  1. Created accounts in delicious.com so that participants an access their bookmarks from any computer
  2. Saved selected smartboard webistes in delicious.com accounts

The following topics were discussed and demonstrated:
  1. Good sites to check out: www.smarttech.com, cfpms.smart.wikispaces.com, teacherslovesmartboards.com
  2. Moving Tables: highlight all cells, Format, Locking, Allow move & rotate, drag to where you want it.
  3. TI Calculators: displays all keys and commands. Real time graphing. (sev. models available)
  4. Movies: Recorded page, voice, writing and highlighting during the lesson. Do NOT use pause- voice & pages won't match up. Highlight what you are discussing so students can see exactly where you are and what you're talking about. Saves as a Quicktime file on desktop. Saw several clips of Math lessons.
  5. Attachments: can put video clips into attachment folder. Insert, Link, Copy/Paste web address.
  6. Separated into two groups: novice group and Math teachers' group.
  7. My Content Folder: under My Gallery. Drag all of your notebook pages into My Content Folder to save and organize your pages.
  8. Check out Smart Learning Marketplace (on My Gallery side of page).
  9. Animation: saw demo. of animated Grammar lesson.
  10. Games: check smart board web site for various templates (ex: Jeopardy).
  11. Topics for next meeting: Power Point and Keynote files- can you drag them into your Notebook?

Group was divided into 2 smaller groups: novices and current/advanced users.
Novice Group:
Learned how to use various tools (colors, themes, backgrounds,shapes, fonts,etc.), paste photos from the internet, clone images, and use this software with an LCD projector even if you do not have a SMART Board. Time was also provided for Q&A, as well as creating our first pages.
