Professional Development Needs Assessment will identify professional development needs of the middle school staff, create a means to address staff needs, create a menu for staff development contracts for 2009-2010 and look at possible programs for 1/2 clerical days throughout the year.

Developing a survey/needs assessment for staff development ideas was discussed. Contacting Jenny Robinson as a resource, as well as using survey monkey for results were also discussed as means of support.
November 4, 2008 and March 27,2009 are both half day in service days. Feedback from survey could be used to generate programs for those days.
Ideas the committee generated today as possible staff development topics were web page design, anti-bullying programs(Olweus- Middle School Pilot Program using Grant monies, Rachel's Challenge, Student Ambassadors, etc.) Professional Development ideas would support student performance and/or student communication, as recommended by C. Pollack following district initiatives.
Scheduling Staff Development at the opening of the school year was also discussed and a recommendation was made to try to avoid this for the 2009-2010 school year, if possible.
